A Metro Transit bus struck and fatally injured a woman Friday morning. The bus struck the woman as it turned into the 46th Street Station, in South Minneapolis.
Rebecca Cruzen, 43, was walking east on 46th Street toward Hiawatha. She was walking on the sidewalk, crossing the driveway of the bus station at 6:30 a.m., as a Metro Transit bus, also eastbound on 46th Street, made a left turn into the station and hit her.
CPR was performed at the scene. Ms. Cruzen was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, where she died at 7:45 p.m. She was kept on life support until her organs could be donated.
The bus driver will undergo standard drug and alcohol testing. He has been employed with Metro Transit nearly 8 years. The bus will also be inspected to determine if all the mechanical components were working properly.
The accident is under investigation. The State Patrol hopes the video footage from the bus and the light-rail platform will help in the investigation.
