Minneapolis Hip Replacement Attorney

Hip replacement surgery, also called hip arthroplasty, may be necessary if you have suffered severe hip damage in a high-impact car accident, truck accident, or motorcycle accident. Statistics show that, in 95% of the cases, hip replacements last approximately 15 years. Hip joint pain is debilitating and interferes with quality of life in many ways. If the pain is constant, it can lead to depression, anxiety, and add strain to interpersonal relationships.

There are many things to consider after a serious injury in an accident due to negligence. One thing that has to be evaluated is the amount of compensation needed to cover all of the possible medical expenses that could be incurred during your lifetime because of this injury. Our Minneapolis Hip Replacement Attorneys have years of experience handling personal injury cases, including a recent settlement for $1.5 million. Call 612-362-0000 or contact us.

Hip Replacement Surgery

The hip joint is one of the most active joints in the body, designed for many different types of movement. Hip replacement involves removing the damaged hip joint and replacing it with an artificial joint, called a prosthesis. The implants used in hip replacements are plastic, ceramic, or metal and are biocompatible — designed to be accepted by the body. Furthermore, they are made to resist corrosion, deterioration, and wear. The primary reasons for hip replacement include:

  • hip fractured beyond repair
  • relieve chronic pain from previous fracture
  • restore range of motion and function of the hip joint

Hip Replacement Complications

There are many complications that can accompany hip replacement surgery, including:

  • Blood clots develop because of decreased movement of the leg after surgery or possible injury to the veins during surgery. Blood-thinning medications can be prescribed to prevent clots from forming. Compression devices or elastic stockings can be used to increase blood flow and reduce the risk of clots.
  • Infections in the incision or deep tissue near the new hip are fairly common. They can usually be treated with antibiotics, but a major infection near the prosthesis may require further surgery to remove and replace the prosthesis.
  • Additional fracture to the hip joint can happen during surgery.
  • Dislocation is an issue because the prosthesis is marginally smaller and can slip out of place. If the artificial hip routinely dislocates, surgery may be necessary to stabilize it.
  • The artificial hip can break. This would require replacement surgery.
  • Change in leg length. Occasionally the new hip will make the leg longer or shorter than the other one.
  • Soft tissue may harden, making the joint stiff to move.
  • The prosthetic hip joint may wear out, requiring a second hip replacement surgery.
