Minneapolis Horner’s Syndrome Attorney
Horner’s Syndrome is caused by damage to the sympathetic nerves that travel from the brain to the eyes and face, controlling the body’s circulation and perspiration. The nerves start in the hypothalamus, progress through the brain stem and spinal cord into the chest. Then they go up the neck by the carotid arteries and end in the eyes. If nerve damage is sustained anywhere along this circuitous path, it can result in an eye injury called Horner’s Syndrome.
The symptoms of Horner’s Syndrome can be subtle, yet distinct, and they usually occur on only one side of the face. The symptoms include:
- drooping eyelid
- lower lid elevated
- smaller pupil
- eyeball recedes into the socket
- decreased sweating on affected side of face
Horner’s Syndrome is frequently the result of a neck injury sustained in a car accident, truck accident, or motorcycle accident. If you have been in an accident and suspect a neck injury, you should have a full neurological exam to determine the full extent of the damage.
