Minneapolis Shoulder Impingement – Bursitis Attorney
Impingement starts with a shoulder injury. The injury can cause inflammation and swelling of the rotator cuff tendons and bursa, resulting in the tendons and bursa being pinched between the humerus and acromion. The impingement syndrome cycle has begun — soft tissue gets swollen, pinched, inflamed, and repeats. When a tendon is constantly irritated, it starts to permanently thicken. If this happens, surgery will be required to relieve the chronic pain.
Shoulder Impingement Treatment
There are some simple steps to treat shoulder impingement – bursitis. They are:
- Rest the shoulder. It will prevent further irritation. Do not do any activity that causes pain.
- Take an anti-inflammatory, over-the-counter medication.
- Apply ice once or twice per day. Ice can control pain and reduce inflammation.
- Do simple shoulder exercises or stretches. (Check with your doctor or online for examples. Do not do any exercises that cause pain.)
- If you are still feeling pain, the next step is a cortisone injection.
If conservative treatments fail, arthroscopic surgery is recommended to relieve pain. It will take 2-4 months to achieve full recovery from surgery.
