Minneapolis Trimalleolar Fracture Attorney
Our trimalleolar fracture attorneys have years of experience with trimalleolar fracture cases. Trimalleolar fractures are very serious because the health and stability of the ankle joint is so critical to the body’s ability to bear weight. Recovery is difficult and you may be sentenced to a life of pain and limited mobility.
If you have sustained a trimalleolar fracture, you need legal representation to establish fault and maximize your compensation. Contact Terry, Slane & Ruohonen at 612-362-0000.
Trimalleolar Fractures
An ankle fracture that is classified as a trimalleolar fracture involves the lateral malleolus (outside bump of the ankle), medial malleolus (inside bump of the ankle), and the base of the tibia. These three bones interface with the talus bone of the foot.
Many trimalleolar fractures require surgery because the joint lacks stability. During surgery screws and pins will be used to align and stabilize the ankle. Following surgery, a non-weight bearing cast will be put on for 6-8 weeks. The recovery process is grueling — leaving the ankle prone to pain, stiffness, and arthritis. A trimalleolar fracture case can be further complicated by:
- nerve damage
- blood vessel damage
- bone infection
- development of arthritis
Trimalleolar fractures frequently happen in motor vehicle accidents as a result of the driver or passenger bracing their foot on the floorboard in anticipation of impact. Trimalleolar fractures can also be sustained in motorcycle accidents and slip and fall accidents.
