Rich Ruohonen

Rich Ruohonen has dedicated his legal career to the practice of personal injury law by helping injured people. Rich received the Minnesota Association for Justice 2008-09 Excellence Award. He is also consistently named as a Super Lawyer by Minnesota Law & Politics magazine. Rich is a sought-after speaker on matters related to personal injury litigation, especially traumatic brain injury. Rich also has written several articles and given several speeches on matters related to personal injury.

Rich earned his B.A. from Hamline University with honors and subsequently received his law degree, with honors, from the Hamline University School of Law. He is a member of several committees of the Minnesota Association for Justice and also sits on its Board of Governors.

Rich focuses his practice on cases involving car accidents, traumatic brain injury (TBI), food poisoning, premises liability, medical malpractice, and product liability. He recovered a $3,750,000 settlement for the victim of a recreational vehicle accident. He has represented hundreds of victims of various personal injury accidents. Rich has tried numerous cases to a jury with excellent results, including the following:

• Jury total verdict of $216,163.71 for a car crash case with injuries that included a non-dominant, left radial arm fracture.
• Defective product case settled for $3,750,000.
• Traumatic brain injury settlement of $1,500,000.
• Jury verdict of $156,000 for a slip and fall case.
• Jury verdict of $140,000 for a medical malpractice case.
• Jury verdict of $92,500 for a slip and fall case.
• Car accident case awarded $448,000.

Rich authored and published an article on “Debunking the Top 10 Myths of Traumatic Brain Injury: Effective Cross Examination of the Defense Neuropsychologist”. His article was first published by the Minnesota Association for Justice magazine; Rich has also reworked the article for the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association magazine.

Outside of his legal practice, Rich is an avid participant in the sport of curling. As a member of Team Brown, he recently won the U.S. National Curling Championships and represented the United States as Team USA in the World Curling Championships, in April 2008. He is currently attempting to qualify for the Olympics.

Rich lives in Brooklyn Park with his wife, Sherry, and their two children, Hannah and Nicholas. He enjoys softball, curling, basketball, racquetball, fishing and basically most sports. He is an avid Minnesota sports fan and especially a big Minnesota Vikings fan.
